A "Currant" Post

Our currants are ripening. This afternoon Elizabeth and I went out to pick for the first time.

She picked the low ones and I picked the currants that were more toward the top of the bush.

Currants are rich in antioxidants. They taste sour. Elizabeth thought they were a treat. We don't generally eat them unless we're out picking. The rest of the currants go into the freezer for smoothies.

First, Elizabeth washed them. After she dropped them on the floor she washed them again and put them into a container. I stopped her and placed them on a plate.

I put the plate in the freezer and when their frozen I'll put them into a container. That way they won't all freeze together in a glob. Picking currants is tedious work, but since we're growing them we might as well use them.

The variety in fruit alone is amazing. Who would dare think that it all happened by chance?

June

June is a hectic birthday month at our house.

Michelle's birthday is on the twenty-first, also known as the first day of summer.

Thomas's birthday is on the twenty-seventh.

Irvin's birthday is on the twenty-nineth.

The funny thing is that we were all due a different month!

Michelle was due in July, but was two weeks early.

Thomas was born in June but two weeks late.

Irvin was due in the beginning of June but was three and a half weeks late!

"For since the creation of the world...."

We have never had any pets except for a few fish until the last couple months.

Michelle and Thomas have started keeping creatures from the rodent family. Their goal: to raise and sell the fur.

I have a goldfish, that I didn't want, but won in a drawing I didn't know I entered.

Just today Paul and Michelle caught a couple of baby rabbits.

Last, but not least, Michelle is looking for a dog. When this dog is found it will be the first one the Mangos have ever owned.

Paul and I are diligently working on Biology. This last week we have been studying ecosystems. It is absolutely amazing how God has designed all of His creation to work together. And we only scratched the surface by learning about the water, oxygen, and carbon cycles.

Finally, the most wonderful thing of all is this: "the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world."

Hallelujah!

The Beginning of Harvest in Richmond

"The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few."

Last week six of us joined other believers from Ireland, Canada, and the United States in Richmond, KY to share the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost.
From prayer, to door-to-door, to kids clubs, to gospel meetings, to car washes, we were privileged to work with zealous believers in telling the Good News, that Christ came into the world to save sinners.

Some highlights of the week were (in no particular order).....
  1. Seeing sinners saved.
  2. Long conversations on door steps.
  3. Being challenged by the the zeal of young people.
  4. Tasting some Southern hospitality. One of the ladies I met at the Corrie Ten Boom drama kindly invited us to her home for dinner. It was a treat to be in a home and not a restraunt for supper. Miss T. served us a simple dinner in an elegant way. After dinner she let Thomas and I play her grand piano for her. She also let us examine old toys from past eras. It was delightful.
  5. Learning new group games...."Meet the Press".
  6. Lunches at Lake Reba kindly provided by Mr. N.
  7. The singing of hymns accompanied by piano, violin, and viola.
  8. Seeing old friends and meeting new ones.
  9. The Lord's Supper. I was reminded of popcorn by the way men, young and old, stood up to share something about the Lord Jesus.
  10. How the Lord used a young woman's fluent knowledge of Spanish to make known the gospel and Biblical truths to R. and his friend.
  11. Being reminded in a powerful way of the value of prayer.

Many, many, many contacts were made. Please pray for the local believers as they have a LOT of follow-up visits and Bible Studies to do.

Next place? Our area. (just not so many people)
