Old House Update - Kitchen is done!!!

The kitchen is finally done. My DH has worked so hard on it. There is some final detailing to be done on the house, and then it will go on the market.  If you know someone who would be interested in this beautifully redone century house, let us know!

The eat-in kitchen has a large pantry.  Wish I had this at the new house. (grin) My DH did such a lovely job choosing the tile and all the kitchen pieces and parts and installing them.

There are all new stainless steel appliances.  We also installed new lighting.  I have always liked the fact that the window over the sink looks out over the back yard.  I like the built-in dishwasher also.

Here is the other side of the kitchen.  There is a really nice 5 burner stove and a built in microwave.

view from the kitchen into the formal dining room.

There is lots of cabinet and counter space with the new peninsula.  There is more new lighting here also.

This is the original door on our century home.  It is really pretty, and I think very cool to have.

We have redid the porch/entry way to the house. It looks so much better.

The back hall bathroom was given a make over. It still needs the new lighting installed.

The living room looks so nice, especially with the afternoon shadows.

The backyard is coming along nicely.  It is gradually greening up.  Almost all of the junk has been cleared out.  We are planning to move the little shed (formerly our chicken coop) out of there also and bring it to the farm.  We never seem to have enough chicken coops here.

The front yard no longer bears the imprints of our vegetable gardens.  The grass here looks nice.

Our old house.  So many memories, but I really don't miss it at all.  I love the farm!

Project Updates

The kitchen is well on its way to being torn out.  The wall between the dining room and kitchen is gone.  We will replace it with a peninsula. You can see the back of the stove is where it will be.

The doorway and walls are removed.

All the iridescent white tiles are gone off the ceiling.  I think they were used for target practice.

This is what it looks like from the kitchen thru the dining room into the family room.  We have new cabinets ordered.  The Peninsula will have a little breakfast bar and will be a tall enough counter height that Michelle can work on it comfortably without hurting her back.  We are even putting in a sink for her.  Elizabeth will need a higher counter some day soon too.  The joys of having very tall daughters!

Progress is being made on the office/shop also.  The garage door was removed form the office area and has been installed in the back garage at out old house.

The inside of the office has been laid out.  There is even an adjusting table in my new office!

The small area here, will be my DH's office.

The larger area toward the door will be a storage/shipping area for supplements and will hold a desk for JoAn and Paul for quiet work areas.

Here is the somewhat cleaned out milk house.  I am still not sure what all the plumbing and pump goes to, but I know it has something to do with the milk cooling tank on the right.

We are in the process of planning and laying out our pastures, orchards, and gardens as well as our recreational ideas. (volleyball, soccer, fire pit, swings, etc.)

We have some more work days coming this week.  I will update the progress as we accomplish things!

DH Loves Me

DH loves me, this I know
For this project shows me so.
Bigger jobs to him belong,
I am weak but he is strong ( smart, handsome, hardworking, etc)
This is a project that has needed done for awhile.
We had an ugly door here that was solid, but didn't have any windows. This is the door that goes from the garage into the house. I was always afraid that someone would swing the door open and knock a little one down the steps. It never happened, but it was more than a remote possibility. He did this job on the Friday after Thanksgiving. He also put up the trim right away. It is a beautiful door.

The door was FREE. It came off a job that he was doing. Crazy the stuff that people want to get rid of. It was in a local board of education building (your tax dollars at work) that he helped remodel. He did have to re size the door. It has beveled glass for each of the panes. It even came with the curtain attached. I am so Thankful for this provision of God and my husband. Thank-you darling!

Hot Times in the Kitchen

This man is my hero. He had the brilliant idea of installing an oven in the kitchen. His buddy was over and the two of them ran a new electric line. His Buddy, Jeff, got a real 'charge' out of this job. They didn't have the power turned off in one of the circuits they were working on. Our house was wired by a schizophrenic electrician. We have things on one circuit in the attic, garage, AND the basement. We have lived here for 13 years, and we still have switches that we don't know what they go to.

For the last few years we have used an oven in the garage. It is nice in the summer, but in the winter you need to put boots on to go out there, because the snow blows in under the door. It has worked OK.

We had a dysfunctional double oven in the kitchen that we were using for storing the cast iron pots in the top one and trivets and such in the bottom one. It was not a thing of beauty. Here it is on it's way out. (YEAH!!)

My DH recently picked up this brand new oven off a job and it is the right size (very small) to fit in the old space. This is so sweet! There is even a little room underneath that will still work for storage as this is only a single oven. We have the good life, a little oven in the kitchen and a big one close by in the garage. Some people still must cook over dung fires. We have no problems.
Thanks Darling! You are a Prince among men!
